null Aeronautical Data Service, a key contribution to flight operations preparation

23 Mar 2021

Over the past years, Airbus Helicopters has made many efforts to standardise and optimise the Human Machine Interface of its helicopters for enhanced pilots situation awareness and thus operational safety.
Our new generation helicopters are equipped with the Helionix® avionics suite substantially reducing crew workload.
For these operators flying helicopters such as H135, H145, H175 or H160, Airbus Helicopters proposes the Aeronautical Data Service (ADS) that provides accurate maps (cyclic and non-cyclic data) produced from ARINC 424 data for on-board display. It allows streamlined access to qualitative and certified navigation, terrain elevation, obstacles and cultural data.
This aeronautical content is available online through your AirbusWorld collaborative platform, and updated every 28 days in accordance with the AIRAC cycle. Maps integration into the Multi-Functional Display (MFD) is simple and covers any specific geographical area.

The service provides integrated functions such as:
•    Helicopter Terrain Awareness and Warning System (HTAWS)
•    Synthetic Vision System (SVS).
•    Digital maps (DMAP)
and integrates Airbus Helicopters technical support.

Aeronautical Data Service offers many advantages. It enhances airworthiness and operational safety by facilitating flight operations preparation thanks to easy maps upload solutions, and multiple on-board display modes: TOPO, SAS, VECTOR. The service accommodates flexible map selection to help the pilot better anticipate terrain presence in outside degraded visual conditions, while it increases fleet availability by providing up-to-date avionics data avoiding flight delays.

To subscribe to this service, operators can choose between two subscription types:
•    Worldwide subscription: access to all geographical areas
•    Regional subscription: access to one specific area
The MyAerodata solution can also be proposed as an option to cover maps customisation requirements.

Some 350 helicopters are currenty connected and use the Aeronautical Data Service.
